Chase Herbstreit, son of ESPN star and ex-Ohio State QB Kirk, commits to Michigan
Kirk Herbstreit’s son, Chase, is going to Michigan — even though his dad played quarterback for Ohio State.
The younger Herbstreit is a quarterback in the Class of 2025 and a three-star recruit, according to 247 Sports.
“So proud of you Chase!” Kirk posted on X. “Congratulations on this incredible opportunity. Look forward to watching you continue to grow and develop at Michigan. Keep grinding!!”
The Cincinnati, Ohio native has been a standout at St. Xavier High School and committed to the Wolverines on Sunday.
Herbstreit was unranked by ESPN, where his father — Kirk — has worked as a college football analyst since 1995.
The younger Herbstreit arrives as 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback prospect who recorded 26 total touchdowns in his senior season of high school.
He also led St. Xavier to the regional finals.
Herbstreit will become the second quarterback from the Class of 2025 to join Michigan after No. 1 overall prospect Bryce Underwood, who flipped his commitment after a jaw-dropping $10.5 million NIL offer to join the Wolverines after previously committing to LSU.
The elder Herbstreit was also a college quarterback.
The long-time ESPN analyst played at Ohio State from 1989-92, starting in his senior season and helping drive the team to an 8-3-1 record.
Herbstreit threw for 1,902 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions that season.
Now his son will be playing for his rival.
