‘Pride and Prejudice’ Series In Development At Netflix
A series based on Jane Austen’s most famous novel Pride and Prejudice is in development at Netflix.
The series has not been officially greenlit, but Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton is attached as writer. Additionally, the cast has not yet been revealed according to Variety.
Netflix has previously adapted Austen’s Persuasion for a 2022 movie starring Dakota Johnson, so a series order seems imminent.
Pride and Prejudice follows the intelligent yet stubborn Elizabeth Bennet as she learns via her relationship with Mr. Darcy that love is stronger than pride or prejudice. The book, originally published in 1813, has been adapted several times for screen.
The most popular iterations were the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and the BBC’s 1995 miniseries starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
Alderton is best known for her bestselling 2018 memoir Everything I Know About Love, which examines her own experience navigating her 20s. It was adapted into a seven-episode series for BBC One and Peacock in 2022.
Alderton’s most recent book titled Good Material is a piece of fiction that follows a struggling male comedian in the fallout of a breakup.
Earlier this week, the BBC announced a Pride and Prejudice spinoff series about Elizabeth Bennet’s sister, Mary. Bad Wolf is producing the show titled The Other Bennet Sister.
Netflix nor Alderton have released any statement regarding the Pride and Prejudice news, although an official announcement may be forthcoming.
