Al-Burhan: There is no negotiation with the Rapid Support as long as the war continues
The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, confirmed – yesterday, Friday – that he will not negotiate with the Rapid Support Forces as long as the war continues.
He told army officers and soldiers in the Wadi Saydna military area in Omdurman, west of Khartoum, “As long as the war continues (with rapid support), we will not negotiate, and as long as there is an occupation of citizens’ homes and the cities of El Geneina, Nyala, Zalingei, Al Daein (Darfur region, west of the country), and Khartoum and Al Jazira (central), we will not negotiate.”
Al-Burhan added, “If the rebels wish to negotiate, they must first remove their forces outside these cities and gather them in specific areas.”
He added, “We are committed to the Jeddah platform, but the other party must implement its obligations, according to what was signed in Jeddah.”
The proof here refers to the Jeddah talks between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which took place under Saudi-American sponsorship, on May 11, and resulted in the first agreement between the two sides to commit to protecting civilians, and the announcement of more than one truce during which violations and the exchange of accusations occurred between the two conflicting parties, which prompted Riyadh and Washington to suspend negotiations.
The head of the Sovereignty Council stressed that “everyone is determined to eliminate the (Rapid Support) rebellion.”
