Buccaneers running back Rachaad White victim of alleged extortion attempt

Buccaneers running back Rachaad White was the victim of an alleged extortion that the FBI is now investigating the situation, his lawyers said.
White’s attorneys, Michelle Gervais and TJ Grimaldi, confirmed the news in a statement to multiple outlets and said “other appropriate authorities” were looking into the situation.
“Illegal and defamatory threats and demands against Rachaad and his family will be met with zero tolerance. We will continue to exercise all legal avenues to protect Rachaad’s rights as a victim of extortion,” the attorneys said in a statement.

Specific details about the alleged extortion attempt were not made clear.
The FBI office in Tampa, Florida, would not confirm that it was involved in any ongoing investigation related to White, Fox Sports’ Greg Auman reported.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office could not confirm any involvement in an investigation.

White, in his third NFL season in 2024, split running back duties with Bucky Irving.
He had been the full-time starter for the Buccaneers in 2023.
White ran for 2,084 yards and 10 touchdowns through his first three years in Tampa, which drafted him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The 26-year-old is headed into the final year of his contract.
